I Have a Floor!

I came home in the dark again today, but my first stop was to grab the torch and take a look at what the builders had been up to today. Pleased to announce that I have a floor. Not much else though and it is only the ground floor.

But what it does do is give us a pretty good idea how big the rooms are going to be. I think it is pretty huge. Looking forward to the frame going up next week.

One thing I can say is that building is slow, well it seems that way at the moment. Patience grass-hopper.

All this has been going on here and I have started the new job, pretty busy all round. Leaving early and getting home late, but loving it.

Skype 4.0 Beta 2

I reviewed the screenshots of the new Skype 4.0 Beta and I was horrified to see a huge client that occupied more white space than a billboard. I don’t test Skype beta’s because they stuff up my recording software that I use. But the screenshots and video turned me right off even wanting to.

However I was pleased to read today that after the review of beta users feedback they will be releasing with Beta 2 the option of having a “compact” more like what we are used to. The way that this read also implied that conversations could not be separated into windows, this will also be “fixed”. I said it was a stupid idea in the first place to have a client so big.

They are focusing on video I know but no one I know uses video in almost full screen. Thankfully they have seen the light. I hope it changes more than this, but it is a beta.

I have been meaning to try this out for a while now and I am very pleased that I have now had the time to do so. You might notice that commenting is now available on Bit’s and Pieces, being my Tumblr blog. I have added the Disqus Commenting system. Since Disqus is associated with seesmic; there is viseo commenting also available. Be great is someone want to have a crack at leaving a comment!

Looks pretty good, might make the time to catch this one when it comes out. I was bummed that I missed Indianna Jones :( Although I did see The Incredible Hulk on Friday night (Hot date with the wife :))

Heard a few reports on this and decided to throw in into the feed. But from what I see and what I hear the physical size of the new interface is wayyyy too big.

I have not tried it yet. I steer clear of beta anything with Skype as my recording software goes belly up with beta’s.

However I have heard that the call quality is great. I just hope they slim it down a bit.

Today the extensions have really got started on the house. I am going to aim to regularly update my flickr page with photos and the blog with what has been happening.

Was not sure where to put such a short post - but thought that Tumblr was as good as any!

Michael Arington posted a story today on TechCrunch regarding the fact that AP is trying to make it’s own rules up regarding the use of it’s content. This in total disregrd for “Fair Use” rules. I agree with Arrington in that they are doing it to protect their dying business model.

Threats to sue and make up their own laws as they go in a last ditch for self presivation. Screw A.P I am with Arrington - A.P don’t exist. I know I can quote directly from TechCrunch without fear of recriminations:

…new policy on A.P. stories: they don’t exist. We don’t see them, we don’t quote them, we don’t link to them. They’re banned until they abandon this new strategy…

I too would encourage others to do likewise.
